You can have chemical hairdressing services in the salon approximately three months after your final chemotherapy but DO NOT proceed if:
- Your scalp is still sensitive, sore or scaly
- Post-chemotherapy medication has induced hair thinning
- Your hair feels dry, rough or fragile to the touch
- Always get a patch test done before starting to colour your hair again. Chemotherapy can sometimes make you sensitive to products you were not sensitive to prior to treatment.
Don’t be fooled by these terms:
- A gentle perm: no perm is gentle so avoid having one on your new hair
- Natural colouring: only henna or vegetable dye can be classed as natural if and only if there is nothing else in their formulas. Usually these colours are unpredictable and very poor in performance
- Semi-permanent colour with special gentle ingredients: this performs just like a permanent tint but penetrates less into the cuticle
