The Truth about Hair Extensions

Renowned Hair Extensions Specialist and Racoon’s Global Head of Education, Lawrence Taylor, is setting the record straight and telling the truth about hair extensions. With the rise of social media influencers and celebrities sporting long, luscious locks, there has been a growing interest in hair extensions. However, there are still many misconceptions and questions surrounding this popular hair trend. In an effort to educate the public, Taylor is sharing his expertise and debunking common myths and telling you the truth about hair extensions.

Is it all about length!

According to Taylor, hair extensions are not just for adding length. “So many people think that you would only choose to have hair extensions if you want to have much longer hair”, says Taylor, “when in fact there are so many more uses. They can also be used to add volume, texture, and even colour to your hair. Hair extensions are a versatile tool that can transform any hairstyle,” says Taylor. “They may be closely guarded celebrity secret, but are not just for celebrities or special occasions, anyone can use them to elevate their hair style.”

What is the biggest Hair Extension myth

One of the biggest misconceptions about hair extensions is that they damage natural hair. Taylor explains that when applied and maintained correctly, hair extensions should not cause any harm to the natural hair. “Racoon International work with a leading trichologist to confirm that when properly applied and removed by a Racoon Certified Extensionist, your Luxe hair extensions will not cause any damage to your hair fibre.” says Taylor “Although it is important that you always follow the guidelines for caring for your hair extensions at home, use the products advised and also ensure that you return for upkeep / removal in line with your stylist’s recommendations”

Maintenance explained!

Another myth surrounding hair extensions is that they are high maintenance and require a lot of time and effort to maintain. However, Taylor assures that with proper care, hair extensions can last for months and require minimal maintenance. “Just like with natural hair, it’s important to use the right products and techniques to keep extensions looking their best,” says Taylor. “There are also a wide variety of different application methods which vary on the time they take to fit and also rotate and remove, so it is always best to discuss your lifestyle and your requirements fully with your stylist.  Check out Our Hair page to see the different types of hair extensions that Racoon International  offer and how they vary.

Are they expensive!

“Well yes, they can be quite pricey” says Lawrence, but not always when you consider how much you spend on getting your hair coloured or when having other hair or beauty treatments.  Taylor advises “The best thing to do is to look at the different methods and explore which are going to be better for you and your lifestyle. Some methods (usually the ones that take the longest, are more bespoke and where the hair is the longest) are the most expensive.  However, you may only need a few partial extensions or perhaps some cheaper method like luxe tapes or luxe links that will give you a great result but better for your pocket.  You should also be able to use the same hair (although you will still need to have them refitted) for up to a year if the hair is good quality Remy hair as supplied by Racoon International.
